Review of Everything’s Coming Up Rosie by Courtney Walsh

I love Courtney Walsh’s books, but Everything’s Coming Up Rosie may have been her best yet. Rosie is an aspiring actress who isn’t having luck furthering her career in New York. Too embarrassed to tell her friends and family about her lack of success, she accidentally takes a job as the director of a theater program at a retirement community, where she learns how to rethink the ways she has always imagined her life.

As a theater nerd, I loved the ways Rosie handled the challenges of putting together a play in a retirement community. But what I mostly loved was Rosie herself, and all the ways that she grew over the course of the novel. Her character was relatable, and despite all her struggles, still joyful. The cast of characters were unique and wonderful, despite the sheer number of them–her new roommate, her best friends from home, Booker (her love interest), and all the various members of the retirement community who join her theater group. They were all interesting and felt like people you knew, learning to live in community together and accept each other and themselves.

If you are looking for a feel-good story about romance, friendship, and personal growth, then this is the book for you.
